Undertaking any kind of building work can be a daunting prospect, especially considering the expense involved. With so many opportunities for it to go wrong and for the costs to spiral, knowing the right direction to head is not easy. If you then add in the premium we pay for work of this type on Guernsey, and it’s no wonder that things often don’t go as expected, and what should be an enjoyable experience turns into a very stressful one.

The services I offer attempt to ensure these pitfalls are avoided. Depending on your own level of experience and knowledge, it can start with helping you understand what’s going to happen, whether from per-planning or further into the process, finding financial savings, organising quotes and, if required, handling the day to day management on site. I can help in one, or all of these areas depending on the project you’re undertaking. It may also be the case that I am just available to help and offer advise if required.



Having undertaken several development projects over the last 20 years, I recently completed my own 270 sqm new build in Castel. Using my project management experience and relationships with local suppliers, I completed the build in under 12 months from pre-planning to move in. All for a fraction of the local industry norm cost per sq/m. I achieved this by using building techniques that reduce build time and cost, working hard to secure the materials at the best price, ensuring the sub contractors were carefully vetted and kept to a tight schedule and being realistic about what could be achieved in the time and financial constraints I had laid out.
I don’t pretend to have the experience or knowledge of many of the more experienced builders on the island. But where there are gaps in my knowledge, or my list of contacts, I am not shy of finding the people who know and getting the required guidance.

The Process

The first step is to meet and have a general chat about the project and check we’re able to work together.
I will then look at what stage of the process you are at and produce a short review of what I feel I can do for it.
We then meet again to go through this document and discuss the next steps. There is no charge for any of this.

  • Handling of planning and building control applications.
  • Researching different materials and construction techniques.
  • Finding sub contractors and securing quotes.
  • Finding material suppliers and securing quotes.
  • Negotiating prices and contracts.
  • On site time management
  • Dispute resolution.


Once we have decided the level of involvement required from me, we agree a monthly retainer for my services, or hourly rate for smaller jobs.
