The Old Court House, a Grade II thatched property dating from 15th/16th Century, is reputed to have been used by the Lords of the Manor of Colyton and by the infamous Judge Jefferies. During re-thatching in the 1990s a sword dating from the time of the Monmouth Rebellion (1685) was found. The house has many interesting features including flagstone floors, beams, and a field-panelled sitting room and staircase. At the back of the property is a large cobbled yard and walled garden, with a gazebo dating from 1705.

At the end of the 19th century the Old Court House was divided into two dwellings. It now forms part of an attractive and historic south west facing range of buildings running between Queen’s Square and the top of King Street.
